How CCS students can thrive — not just survive — in school and life

At Canggu Community School, we believe that success isn't just about strong academics — it's about whole-student growth. And at the center of that philosophy is one of our most important core values: Balance.

In today’s fast-paced, hyper-connected world, students are navigating more than ever before: schoolwork, extracurriculars, screen time, social dynamics — the list goes on. As educators and parents, we have a responsibility to help them manage it all in healthy, sustainable ways.

So in this week’s blog, I’m sharing a few reflections and practical tips on how students can balance their academic responsibilities with mental, emotional, and physical well-being — all within the supportive environment of CCS Bali. You can explore more about our approach to wellbeing and learning at ccsbali.com.

1. Define What Success Looks Like for You

At CCS, we encourage students to set personal goals — not just chase grades. Whether it’s mastering a math concept, improving your Bahasa, or learning to manage stress during exams, success is about progress, not perfection.

By focusing on growth rather than comparison, students build confidence and avoid burnout.

2. Use a Calendar — and Include “You Time”

Balancing your academic load starts with being intentional about time. CCS students are encouraged to use planners, calendars, and digital tools to map out their week.

And here’s the key: schedule downtime just like you would a study session. That might mean a surf break, an afternoon walk, yoga, or time to simply rest — because rest is productive too.

3. Don’t Wait Until You’re Overwhelmed to Ask for Help

One of the best things about our school community is the support system in place. From teachers to advisors to our wellbeing team, help is always available.

At CCS, we actively promote a culture where it’s okay to say, “I need support.” Whether it’s academic, emotional, or social, you are never alone here.

4. Move Your Body, Fuel Your Brain

It sounds simple, but it works: daily movement and good nutrition have a huge impact on focus and mental clarity. That’s why physical education, mindfulness, and outdoor learning are all part of our programs at CCS.

We’re proud to be a school where wellness is built into the rhythm of the day — not just something students do after hours.

5. Remember: Balance Is a Lifelong Skill

More than a school skill, balance is a life skill. It’s the ability to listen to yourself, know when to push and when to pause, and develop healthy rhythms that sustain you — long after graduation.

It’s why our strategic plan prioritizes social, emotional, and physical wellbeing, ensuring that students grow into thoughtful, grounded individuals who know how to care for themselves and others.

Final Thoughts

Balance doesn’t mean having it all figured out. It means checking in with yourself, making adjustments, and building habits that support your learning and your life.

At Canggu Community School, balance is more than a value — it’s a way of being. And by helping students cultivate it now, we’re setting them up for a future that is not just successful, but sustainable.

Until next week — take care of your mind, body, and heart.

Warmly,
Dr. Ben Voborsky
