Key Stage 2

Introduction

Print

PosterKey Stage 2 includes Years 3 to 6 and caters for pupils from seven to ten years of age. There are two classes per year group. Classrooms are spacious, bright and air conditioned, providing a positive teaching and learning environment. Pupils have regular access to well equipped specialist classrooms such as ICT and Music. For PE, pupils enjoy regular use of the covered Multi Function Hall and the sports field and swimming pools of the Canggu Club.

By reinforcing and strengthening the foundations set in the earlier stages, and by providing challenging questions and problem solving activities, pupils form attitudes, knowledge, skills and strategies which enable them to be successful in Key Stage 2 and in future years of schooling and education.

Curriculum

Junior schoolCCS provides a British style of education that follows the National Curriculum for England. It is adapted to our local and international environment. Guidelines for teaching and learning are provided in the Framework documents. Priority aims of this Framework are:

  • to provide opportunities for all pupils to learn and to achieve
  • to promote pupils' spiritual, moral, social and cultural development and prepare all pupils for the opportunities, responsibilities and experiences of life

The core subjects taught are:

  • Literacy
  • Numeracy
  • Science

Other subjects taught are:

  • Art and Design
  • Bahasa Indonesia
  • Design and Technology (D&T)
  • Geography
  • History
  • Information, Communication Technology (ICT)
  • Music
  • Personal, Social, Health Education (PSHE)
  • Physical Education (PE)
  • Religious Awareness (RA)

Learning activities for each of the subjects are linked across the curriculum whenever possible to maximise learning opportunities. Topics from subjects such as Geography and History provide opportunities to include literature, drama, music and art in a thematic approach. Weekly assemblies are often used to showcase pupils’ work and to provide opportunities for public speaking and performance.

The broad and enriched educational experience given at CCS extends beyond the classroom. Excursions and camps help pupils to make links in their learning and they challenge them in ways that are different to normal classroom activities. Whenever possible, local and global issues are related to learning. Research tasks and discussions complement teaching as they help pupils gain a deeper understanding of causes of issues and solutions being considered.

Pupils are given opportunities to participate in interschool (BSSA) sporting competitions, including athletics, badminton, basketball, cross-country, soccer, swimming and volleyball. They are also encouraged to participate in community service projects such as working with children from an orphanage, recycling programmes and Clean Up the World Day.

CCS is committed to offering an education which helps Key Stage 2 pupils develop a love of learning and an understanding of their responsibility to each other and the world in which they live. By broadening pupils’ horizons and providing challenging opportunities to learn, we assist them to make informed choices in life.
