At CCS, we follow the British government’s Early Years Foundation Stage Curriculum (EYFS) for England, with adaptations for our local and international environment.
The Foundation Stage is about developing key learning skills such as listening, speaking, concentration, persistence and learning to work co-operatively. We also recognise the importance of introducing the basic skills of reading, writing and arithmetic. The Early Years are critical to a child’s development and children develop rapidly during this time. We believe that well planned purposeful play with appropriate intervention by teachers will engage children in the learning process and help them make excellent progress.
Activities are planned under the following areas of the curriculum as identified in the EYFS.
- Personal, Social and Emotional Development
- Communication, Language and Literacy
- Problem-solving, Reasoning and Numeracy
- Knowledge and Understanding of the World
- Physical Development
- Creative Development.
Play is the vehicle by which young children gain access to the curriculum. It is the child’s way of learning and they are therefore given time to explore, re-discover and build on past experiences. Our pupils engage in activities planned by adults and those they plan or initiate themselves.
Early Years pupils are forming attitudes towards education which will underpin all future learning so their time in the Early Years at CCS should be enjoyable and fun.
