Whenever possible, CCS provides EAL support to pupils with this need as part of the School’s normal educational programme. Two full-time EAL teachers are employed by CCS so that this service may be provided.
At the time of enrolment, pupils who may need EAL support are identified. An EAL teacher and the class teacher will then observe the pupil in the mainstream class. If necessary, more specific testing to assess the pupil’s needs will then be organised by the EAL teacher. Once completed, the EAL teacher, class teacher, sub-school coordinator and when necessary, the Principal, determine the level of support to be provided, taking into account the needs of all CCS pupils. The frequency and length of EAL support varies and may be provided on a one-to-one basis or within small groups. EAL lessons may be taught in EAL classrooms or support may be given in mainstream classes. The aim is always to have pupils work successfully in mainstream classes without support as quickly as possible.
EAL lessons provided during normal school hours are free of any extra charges. When there is a need, additional lessons may be organised after school hours. A small fee is charged for this service.
