Canggu Community School operates a non-discriminatory, non-selective admission policy. Admissions are accepted and welcomed throughout the year, where places are available. CCS admits pupils whose academic, personal, social and emotional needs can be met by the School's programmes and services, and who can be integrated into a mainstream classroom.
CCS reserves the right to deny admission to any applicant who, in its opinion, has special needs that can not be fully catered for within the current facilities, personnel and budget restrictions. The School regrets that it cannot presently accept pupils with severe physical or learning disabilities.
CCS offers English as Additional Language (EAL) free of charge to support pupils with this need. This is dependent on any individual pupil being able to fit in with the provision currently available. Therefore, where the EAL class is deemed to be full, or where a pupil’s level of English differs significantly from that of the EAL group, a place may not be offered. Parents of older pupils (Year 3 and above) are advised to ensure their pupil has undergone English language training prior to applying for admission to CCS.
Trial days are offered by CCS and attendance at such days may be required as part of the admission procedure. Generally there will be two days. During these days, tests may be given to confirm whether the School feels the pupil is likely to integrate easily and that the pupil’s needs can be met. There is a charge of $50 per day for the trial to take place. This charge will be credited to the Registration Fee if a place is subsequently offered and accepted.
Admission to the School will be determined by the Admissions Officer, the appropriate Sub-school Coordinator and the Principal. Placement in a particular year level is in accordance with the age guidelines provided by the National Curriculum for England. Click to download Age/Year Group Placement Chart.
The first six weeks of school are probationary and during this period the suitability of courses and year group can be assessed by teachers, parents and pupils. If necessary, adjustments may be made. Until the lapsing of this trial period, placement is provisional. CCS reserves the right to refuse admission to the school when:
- It is determined that the pupil would not benefit educationally from attending the School
- The pupil has a negative scholastic/behavioural record, and is deemed to be likely to have a negative impact on the CCS community
- The School cannot meet the special educational needs of the pupil
- The School has no space within a class or year group
- Required documents and agreements are not provided and signed by parents or guardians.
- The pupil’s needs and/or best interests cannot be met effectively
- Due to the pupil’s needs, his or her presence in the class has a detrimental effect on a significant number of other pupils within the class
- The pupil’s behaviour is deemed to jeopardise the welfare of the School community
- Educationally significant information is withheld during the admission process
- A pupil’s attendance record drops to an unacceptable level (more than 10% or 18 days absence in one year would be considered extreme)
- Required documents and agreements are not updated and signed by parents or guardians as required.
