Background Information
Canggu Community School first opened in August 2005 with just seven pupils. During 2005, the increased interest in enrolments led to the founding parents' decision that a larger campus was needed so more pupils could benefit from the education and community spirit that their children were enjoying. The site was found, the plans were made and the building commenced. Within four months of work commencing, the buildings were finished and the pupils moved in for the start of the 2005-06 school year.
New classrooms, improved facilities and the delightful setting of Bali's first purpose-built school certainly made an impact. The development was the catalyst for rapid growth as the 'old school' closed with just under one hundred pupils from Pre-school to Year 6 enrolled. Just six weeks later, the new school opened with just over one hundred and eighty pupils!
The extra space and increased demand also paved the way for the introduction of secondary school classes. In August 2006, the first Year 7 class started and the controlled expansion has resulted in a secondary class being added each year. There has also been a commitment to consolidate numbers in the primary year levels through the introduction of a second class at each year level.
At the start of the 2008-09 school year, three hundred and fifty-eight pupils from Pre-school to Year 9 were on the CCS roll and plans for the next phase of growth had commenced. These plans include the first IGCSE classes commencing in August, 2009.
CCS is located in Canggu, on Jalan Subuk Sari. This is a semi-rural area that is approximately ten minutes from Seminyak and thirty minutes from the Kuta and the airport.
