Can I enrol my child for a temporary period?

CCS accepts temporary enrolments for a minimum of one term. Pupils are placed in classes according to their age, rather than the year level as these vary from one country to another. This will ensure that pupils are placed in classes that will also assist their social and emotional development and help them develop friendships with pupils of the same age. For further information please contact us by ringing +62 361 844 6391, +62 361 743 0116 or +62 81 2380 6210, or email us at This e-mail address is being protected from spambots. What are the class sizes?

The number of pupils in classes varies from twenty to twenty-four according to the Key Stage level, although there may be smaller numbers in IGCSE classes (Years 10 and 11) according to pupils’ subject selections. (See Admissions-Admission Information for more information)

CCS logoWhere exactly is CCS located?

CCS is located on Jalan Subak Sari in Canggu, approximately 30 minutes north of the airport and Kuta. Travel time to the school is around 10 minutes from Seminyak. (See About CCS-Background Information for more information or click to download a location map)

What is The Canggu Club?

The Canggu Club is co-located with CCS in the same secure and private compound. Opened in August 2006, the Canggu Club is the first private members' club in Bali. It sports, social and recreation facilities for members and a restaurant that is open to the public from 6:00-11:00pm. Under a special agreement, the School uses some Canggu Club facilities such as the swimming pools and playing field during school hours for PE lessons, House games and carnivals, and other special activities.  CCS parents are encouraged to contact the Canggu Club to enquire about membership.

What medical facilities do you have?

CCS has a dedicated Sick Room in the Front Office area that is staffed by a trained nurse (referred to as the Matron) through a special agreement with Kasih Ibu Hospital. In the event that pupils fall ill during the school day, they are cared for in the quiet and restful environment by the Matron until their condition improves or they are taken home/for specialist treatment. If the School is unable to contact a parent/guardian and specialist treatment is needed, the preferred centre for such treatment will be the International wing of Kasih Ibu Hospital. CCS staff members are also trained in first aid procedures and can assist the Matron if necessary. (See About CCS-CCS Campus for more information)

How secure is the school campus?

The school is set well back from the main road and is secured by both our own security measures and by those implemented in conjunction with the Canggu Club. (See About CCS-Security at CCS for more information)

Do you teach foreign languages?

Bahasa Indonesia is taught to all pupils to Year 9. It is also a subject that can be studied as an IGCSE subject. There is also the option of studying some additional languages as part of the After School Activities programme. Please contact the Front Office for more information.

Does your calendar follow the Northern or Southern Hemisphere?

We follow a hybrid of school calendars from the two hemispheres. Our school year commences in August and ends in June. There are four terms per year, with each generally between nine and eleven weeks long. There are four weeks of holiday in the December/January period. The School observes some Indonesian National holidays, Balinese holidays and at least one holiday for the each of the following religions: Buddhism, Christianity, Hinduism and Islam. The School is open for between 180 and 185 days per school year.

Does the school have an EAL/ESL programme?

English as an Additional Language is provided as part of the School’s normal educational programme to pupils who are assessed internally as most in need of support. There are two full-time EAL teachers who either work with pupils individually or in small groups. EAL lessons may be taught in EAL classrooms or support may be given in mainstream classes.

EAL lessons provided during normal school hours are free of any extra charges. (See About CCS-English as an Additional Language (EAL) for more information)

CCS logoAre your fees likely to rise in the future?

We are mindful of our role in the community and the limited options which parents have in Bali. We therefore always try to minimise fee increases. Prices will increase only in line with rises in underlying costs or in line with additional facilities which the school decides to implement in the future.

What is the building levy used for?

The Building Levy may only be used to maintain the School's long-term investment programme in its buildings and infrastructure.

Do you have a uniform?

Yes, the School has a uniform policy in place. Uniforms are available for purchase from the School Shop. (See About CCS-School Uniform for more information)

Do you have a school bus?

Not at this time, however, an independently operated bus does service the school.  Please contact the Front Office for contact details of the bus operator.

Do you use formal testing in your school?

Yes, in addition to internal testing, we use the Standard Assessment Tests (SATs) from England. Pupils sit these tests at the end of each Key Stage, specifically Year 2, Year 6 and Year 9, in May/June.

Tests at Year 2 and 6 are marked internally, to strict criteria provided by the Qualifications and Curriculum Authority (QCA) in England. Scores are then benchmarked against data released by QCA towards the end of June. Parents of pupils in Year 2 are sent a letter providing a summary of scores achieved by the whole year level before the end of June. Appointments with either the Principal or Deputy Principal may be made to discuss each child’s level of achievement. Parents of pupils in Year 6 are advised of their child's scores by letter, before the end of June. A summary of scores achieved by the whole year level is also provided, as well as a summary including scores from previous years.

Tests at Year 9 are sent to England for marking by an external agency, to strict criteria provided by the Qualifications and Curriculum Authority (QCA) in England. The agency will benchmark scores against data released from QCA and return them as soon as possible. It is expected that CCS will be able to forward these to parents towards the middle of July.

Please contact the Principal or Deputy Principal, via the Front Office, for further information.

Do you employ teaching assistants?

Each class has one full-time teaching assistant, with two in the Pre-school class.

Do you have a music, arts and drama programme?

The Arts are an important part of learning at CCS and they are linked across the curriculum whenever possible, particularly in Early Years and Junior School classes.

Music is taught to every class in the school by specialist teachers. Pupils learn about different genres of music from around the world, at different times in history; different instruments and how to play them, including some from Indonesia; the various aspects of music including, rhythm, tone and pitch; how to read music; and the importance of music in our lives.

Pupils are also encouraged to participate in the very strong Instrumental Music Programme. Over ten instruments may be learnt on an individual basis or as part of a small group. Pupils who participate in instrumental lessons are given the option of participating in the Associated Board of the Royal Schools of Music (ABRSM) exams.

Drama is taught as specialist subjects to Middle School pupils. In classes, pupils learn a variety of speaking and acting skills. Performances at Assemblies and an annual school dramatic production are important parts of the Drama programme. When dramatic performances are organised, senior pupils are involved with all aspects of the production, including costumes, make up, sound, lighting, stage crew, marketing and Front of House.

Art is also taught as a specialist subject to Middle School classes. At all ages, pupils are exposed to the works of famous artists from around the world, from different cultures and from different times throughout history. Early in the 2008-09 school year, an artist-in-residence programme was held for the first time. Ms Sophie Fox, from England, enthused pupils and teachers as she taught them some printing techniques, culminating in a large wall mural.

Additional activities in the Arts are also offered as part of the After School Activities and Instrumental Music programmes. (See School Structure-After School Activities for more information)

CCS logoHow can I become involved in the school community?

Parents are encouraged to become active and positive members of the school community, either through interaction with Friends of Canggu Community School (FoCCS) or directly with the class through each class teacher. (See About CCS-Friends of CCS for more information)

Do you have a School Handbook?

Yes. A Parent and Pupil Handbook is provided to parents/guardians and pupils with clear, consistent information about all aspects of life at CCS. A copy of the Handbook can be requested by emailing This e-mail address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it .
